What bits of my Wedding will you photograph

My Wedding day photography coverage is defined by naming the Parts of the Day, rather than as a number of hours. This completely eliminates any question of 'overrun' since I'm there to cover the named event parts. No matter what happens on the day I'll be there to cover it as agreed. This is better than insurance, it's simply peace of mind.

For a conventional wedding in the UK the parts of the day will look like this...

  • Ceremony: Normally a lilttle after midday, 1 or 2 pm perhaps, and the start of the day for the guests. Photographically it's quite intense because ther are many expectations, like the first kiss: moments of unmissable importance. The ceremony includes all the reportage just before, during and after, as well as the posed photographs and confetti shots.
  • Afternoon Reception: Often at another venue, this is the "Wedding Breakfast", some speeches, and maybe the cutting of the cake if it's done early.
  • Drinks Reception: A time of mingling and meeting after teh ceremony. The Afternoon reception would include a drinks reception in coverage terms, but sometimes there is no meal and speeches to cover.
  • Evening Reception: This is when more guests arrive, after the meal, and in time for the party. They arrive in dribs and drabs and I try to make sure they get a fair exposure in the photographs. The Evening reception will run through to a First Dance As a Married Couple, and the rest of the guests joining in.
  • Late Night Party: The celebrations continue in dance, socialising and various modes of gathering to talk and meet. The late night parts are characterised by a lot of fun and laughter, some games perhaps, and everyone's favourite — midnight food (often at 11 pm because 12 pm is too long to wait).

Sometimes couples do other things, these are only the 'convention', an order of the day that will be defaulted to by venues and organisers. You can have a talent contest for guests to enter, some Indian wedding rituals, entertainment by Elvis, a buffet, a boat ride or a pool party: it's up to you. I will happily just rename these things to describe what you are actually doing on a best-fit basis.
